The Washington Institute for Defence and Security supports Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism in the Sinai, and other locations in throughout Egypt.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the Egyptian soldiers killed combating terrorism in the region, and we wish those injured a swift and complete recovery.
Terrorism, in all of its forms and manifestations, is one of the most severe dangers to world peace and security. We emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these heinous acts of terrorism accountable and bringing them to justice, and urged all States to actively cooperate with the Government of Egypt and all other relevant authorities in this regard, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
We emphasize that any act of terrorism, whatever of motivation, wherever, whenever, and by whomever committed, is criminal and unjustifiable. We reiterate the necessity for all states to combat terrorist activities by all means, in line with the United Nations Charter and other duties under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law, and international humanitarian law.
