The international Court of Justice is going to move forward by announcing its new decision. They call Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal. Many countries across the world have praised this decision. It includes the Middle East, Asia, and the West. Also this announcement seems to strengthen the push for ending war between Israel and Hamas and pursuing a two-state solution proposed by the United State.
On the other hand the President of Israel is also under pressure to secure a ceasefire deal before his trip to the United State, has dismissed the ruling as “absurd.” He argues that no ruling from The Hague can change Israel’s decision. It is about using its legal rights to live in their “ancestral home.”
The recent court report having 83 pages was released on July 19. It is significant because it clearly criticizes the Israel action to occupy the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem. It says that this step from Israel clearly highlights the discrimination against Palestine.
This report is particularly important because it came right after the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, turned down a proposal for Palestinian statehood, which had already faced a lot of criticism.
The ICJ also highlights that Israel is also interfering in Palestinian policies and preventing them from deciding their own future and also from growing economically, and socially. Furthermore, ICJ also says that Israel’s action clearly breaks international laws.
According to the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, “ the ICJ’s legal opinion “confirms and reinforces the Palestinian people’s attainment of their legitimate and legal rights in accordance with international and United Nations resolutions to regain the Palestinian territories seized by the Israeli occupation forces.”
He also said that Israel’s army takes very wrong steps. They want to change borders and build settlements. These types of actions must not be accepted across the world. Palestinian land that is occupied by Israel is not Israeli property. It is the Palestine territory.
He also agreed with the GCC’s support for creating a Palestinian state with borders from June 4, 1967, and East Jerusalem as its capital. The GCC includes the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the ICJ’s opinion is very important for supporting the Palestinian cause and showing its legitimacy. It also helps challenge Israel’s efforts to confuse the situation and take more control over Palestinian territories.
The European Union’s statement supports this view and matches UN resolutions about the status of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
It is important for everyone to follow the decision of the International Court of Justice(ICJ). No matter how serious the issue is. Also everyone should carefully read the latest opinion from ICJ to see how it affects EU policies. Many countries across the world are in favor of the ICJ decision. It includes, Belgium, Iceland, Norway, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt
Omar Awadallah, a Palestinian official, said the opinion is historic and important for justice. He believes it can bring stability to the region if followed correctly.
He also emphasized that both the international community and the United Nations work together to end the Israeli occupation.
Palestine plans to work with other countries to take strong actions, like stopping aid and not recognizing Israel’s actions in the occupied territories.
It Is important for the United Nation to make this crucial advisory opinion happen.
Awadallah also said that the court has fulfilled its responsibility. Now it’s time that the international community take action and try their best to stop this illegality.
A person named as Hassan Ben Imran belongs to Palestine also shows strong support for the court decision. He also said this decision from the court helped the Palestinian citizens to fight for their rights and freedom.
However, Imran said Israel is not likely to follow this opinion. He thinks the only way to move forward is to put sanctions on Israel, economic, political, and military. He also suggests suspending Israel’s membership in the UN and other international groups like FIFA.
