Election season in the United States is just around the corner. People discuss key issues on a regular basis, such as grocery prices, access to healthcare, school education, and illegal immigration. However, foreign policy such as the Russia-Ukraine war is not grabbing the attention of people.

In some interviews, both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have little talked about the Ukraine war. But this is not a big topic of their campaign. Trump is a great opponent of Ukraine and has criticized ‌‌the United States’ aid to Ukraine. He makes fun of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s calls for help and questions Ukraine’s land claims. He claims that he could end the war instantly if he is elected.

His running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, has suggested that Ukraine may need to give up some land to Russia and not join NATO in the future. These views paint a worrying picture for Ukraine, showing that neither candidate seems ready to offer strong support during this crisis.

However, the Ukraine conflict raises concerns under the leadership of both Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Trump says he could end the war within a day, but there is no explanation of how. One of the worst cases under his leadership could be pulling ‌United State’s support. This might force Ukraine to give their piece of land to Russia in a ceasefire. Additionally, Russia has a history of not fulfilling promises, like after the 2008 Russian-Georgian war. That’s why it is hard to believe in Russia that they would keep any new agreement.

On the other hand, Harris is not proving good for Ukraine. He followed ‌Biden’s plan, limited her support to Ukraine and avoided strong actions. This cautionary strategy has not sent ‌ military aid to Ukraine in time. While the Biden administration did predict Russia’s invasion, its response has been slow and hesitant, raising doubts about how well the US can lead in this crisis.

Ukraine is continuing to receive military aid of late. It includes air defense systems, tanks, jets, and long-range missiles. This delay makes a real difference in the war. Vice President Kamala Harris has not adopted the new approach and has continued the Biden strategy. This weak support from the US is the main reason for a long-lasting war and also proves hard for Ukraine to win.

Both of these candidates do not understand the sensitivity of the moment. Russia’s attack on Ukraine was one of the significant incidents, the same as when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990. The outcome of this war will affect the security of Europe for a long time. Stronger and quicker actions are needed to help Ukraine win and keep Europe safe in the future.

Europe is the key player in all of this matter. This continent is very important for the US. It is a big buyer of US products and also created mainly job opportunities in the US. Europe is the main player behind Europe’s stability and security. And Ukraine’s success is very crucial for Europe, but both Harris and Trump ignore this reality.

To prevent problems with either Trump or Harris in charge, Ukraine needs to act. First, it should explain to Americans why supporting Ukraine’s defense helps the US. Second, Ukraine should work on increasing its military production so that it doesn’t rely too much on foreign support, including from the US. This will help Ukraine protect itself and keep strong ties with important partners like the US.

Europe is at great risk when supporting Ukraine. Both the US and Europe stand in favor of Ukraine, but Europe is more directly affected by Ukraine’s safety. After the election, if the US support for Ukraine weakens, then Europe will have to set up, although the continent is not ready for it.

Congress ‌also plays a key role in the US. It has ‌great control over spending to aid Ukraine and has significant power over foreign policy. Despite some critics, there is still strong support for helping Ukraine. Congress and the next president must work together.

Ukraine will continue fighting for survival, but the future looks uncertain, no matter who wins the US election.
